How long does a felony stay on your record?

My boyfriend made trustee status today, and he says that he gets "paid" x amount of dollars per day to work on the side of the roads in one of the precincts in Harris County. Does he get 3 for 1 when a trustee? Also, does the money he "makes" go towards his bond amount? Please help! :)
