County Jail really isn't much of a big deal, I still visit every now and then when my lawyer just can't seem to get me off scott free. I have done 5 and a half years on a 100 month (8 1/2 Years) sentence in Federal prison, Ive been to TDC and State Jail and would have to say County jail particualarly Harris county seems to be the worst. This is because you have a bunch of underpaid low life correctional officers (who's wives cheat on them and kids refuse to listen or respect them). They are bottom of the barrel in our society and do not command alot of respect in the "free world" therefore they will use whatever influence that they have inside the county jail walls to belittle one. Best way to get in and out of county as fast as possible is to make a phone call as asoon as possible and arrange for bond to be posted. DO NOT sit there and complain to other inmates or compare stories of how shitty it is how you have to wait sooo long to be bonded out, nobody wants to hear this, especially from a short timer who will be out in less than a month, usually a few days. Remember there are people in this jail that will not be released until there 5 year old daughter turns 28. The last thing they want to hear is how your screwed because your wife can't post bond until she gets off work, and a whole extra day in jail is gonna kill you. Also, If you are absolutely compelled to talk shit to the C.O. or Guards, your best bet is to get it over with either as soon as you hit the tank or in the midst of another disturbance, I wouldn't recommend it, but some people just can't shut there mouths, One thing you absolutely HAVE TO check at the door is your Pride. The Boss's will make sure that is the first thing yanked from you. When the guards get a little out of control, just keep to yourself and let one of the crash dummies in the tank take the heat. Just think in your head what the title BOSS really means, It is NOT a term of respect, It is disrespectfull if anything, It means Sorry Son Of a Bitch, it's an acronym, backwards, Some of the more salty Co's realize what it means and will become angered when you call them boss, the young punk white shirts and rookies think they got you on your kneees there heads get so big you have to grease them to get them through the hatches. Another thing, When chow is passed out, take as many as possible witout getting in trouble, best bet is to let everyone take 1 sandwich or whatever then ask around the tank immediately who is not hungry and will give theirs up, This comes in real handy as a token to barter with or a snack later on. General rule of thumb, If your WHITE, stick around the woods (perckerwoods / white inmates), stay away from the blacks, they tend to be loud and obnoxious, and loosely associate with the hispanics for they will prove to be a valuable resource later on throughout your sentence. The two colors that tend to conflict the most often are the blacks and whites, so just do your best to get along unless it is unavoidable, then you must let your nuts hang and handle up on whoever is a problem. Don't start a fight with someone over something completely ignorant, if you really have the need to throw down,do it hard and do it fast, focus on the target,, throw your belief on the topic out there, and double tap the dude fast and hard, then go on about your businessand keep a close watch on the dude you just smoked for at least an hour, just to make sure he doesn't .pull any funny shit. also keep an eye on commissary like when orders are taken and when it is deliivered..Try not to borrow anything from other inamtes, they will become upset if you fail to make good on your promise
This is pretty much all you
will need to know to make it through the first 5-7 days, after that period you should have figured out a way to eaither stick out like a sore thumb, or peacefully co-exist, either or, you will soon realize that FREEDOM is one of the most sought after things in the world, and for good reason, you see when you are at home, you have the ability through freedom, to say whatever you want whenever you want to whomever usually without consequence, depending on the severity of your words, In jail, you can't exactly talk when you want to talk, and you most certainly cannot say whatever you want , well figuritively speaking you CAN, but will endure severe consequences for your actions which is very seldom worth it. Jail is not designed to be comfortable, this isn't the Hilton (although Montgomery County is VERY SIMILAR) don't arrive and expect for some nice, smiling correctional offcer to right an injustice endured by you, below is the key things you should know
1. Keep to yourself ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH ANYTHING LEGAL OR ABOUT ANYTHING YOU ARE BEING CHARGED WITH.Believe me I have seen people At other people's TRIALS, Testiying about what that person had bragged about in the tank.
2. Collect as much food as possible, It will come in handy
3.When the tank gets tight, and you sense some tension it's always a good rule of tumb to stick to your color
4.Arrange for bond to be posted as quick as possible, the faster you get this done my friend, the faster you can be sitting at a fast food joint eating a burger.
5. Don't exaggerate on anything keep it as real as possible if you do opt to tell personal stories, don't lie about doing time anywhere else, don't lie about gang affiliations if you are not affiliated, and don't brag about personal effects like money or cars or material items, think of jail as a college for ambitious criminals, people can be very resourceful especially when it favors them, you just might walk out of your house one day to find your car sitting on blocks with everything stolen out of it because you decided to run your mouth about how "badass" your new truck was with your $3000 stereo system and your $4000 wheels.
6. Bottom line, your just gonna have to reach down and grab ahold of your nuts and sit your time out, it's not really difficult at all to do time, you pretty much just do it, you don't have a choice, it makes it alot easier if you let go of everything on the outside, this includes beating yourself up over whether your wife is cheating on you or not. everything will still be there for you when you get out in most cases, look at it like a vacation, you just have to put your life on hold for a little while, and when you are released, resume your normal life, and now you won't take so much for granted either, jail time has a way of making you very humble.
7 Good luck uses common sense and you shouldn't have any problems
P.S. I am Turning myself in again tomorrow to sit out yet another short sentence, doing jail time sure does beat probation, probation is set up to make you fail, the end result being jail time anyway, why not just get it over and done with so you can resume your life,
