11-13-08 I received a phone call from the Harris County Jail. Message said not to dial *72 because I may be charged additional monies. By answering the phone I was charged $3.25 I think; but they called again, so I answered thinking it may be a family member. The supposed officer said to punch in *72 so I can get a refund from his secretary but I did not because the previous message said not to due to extra charges. I need to sue the Harris County Jail to get my money back. I dialed the number he gave me 832-785-45__ and the girl did not know anything about it. Is the officer correct or is it a scam being played by someone or the City to get money. Who can I call?

Do you have any new information on this? Because the same thing keeps happening to me, and I don't know how to make it stop

Wow. I've denied over a dozen collect calls today and some inmate keeps calling back. I've resisted the temptation to fund someone else's long distance bill so far, but perhaps I'll cave in after 20 tries? Not so bright. I suppose this is how they ended up in there.

Last night I received a call which I accepted. I was told that a family member was in LBJ Hospital in bad shape and I needed to call a policeman there. The voice said he was Officer Wilson badge number 2117. He tried to give me a number to call. This was a scam and I almost fell for it because I was afraid for my family. This happened on 7/30/08 around 7:30-8:00 p.m.

i'm not sure where you all are getting your information but if you need a block removed from your phone or if you want to set uo any phone to recieve collect calls you can call 18008446591 once you have service set up and you must pay i believe at least 25.00 or 50.00 i cant remember but they will tell you all of the info. and a lot of people are not aware that you can also set it up on your cell phone as well the only reason a block becomes permanant is if you recieve calls on your home phone and you forward your home phone to your cell phone the system can tell if the home phone is forwarded and they will place a permanant block on your phone because call forwarding is not authorized but if you call them and you know how to talk they will remove it if you also set up your cell phone to recieve the calls as well there is no additional charge to add phones to your account after your put your first phone on it except for the convienience fee to pay the bill which is 6.95 i think and you can actually add up to 4 diffrent numbers but like i said if you forward your calls the system can detect it and that is what causes them to place a permanant block trust me i know what i aqm talking about i have been doing this for several months now also they have a web site i believe it is correctionalbilling.com

Again, old or misinformation. The first minute is 5.95, every minute thereafter is 89 cents. They make money all around..and I'm sure those bids for contracts are the fodder of councilmen over golf.

I just talked to a phone rep trying to get a block removed and he said it was permanent. In fact, he said that at the end of the year, there will be no collect calling from the Harris County Jail. It will all have to be prepaid.

There should be a way to get your phone number blocked from there system. If they listen in on the phone conversations then some one is NOT doing there job. Not unusual from Harris county.
